There are so many varied reasons to devise a barbeque party. Maybe it’s someones birthday, anniversary, reception, new neighbors moved in next door, or celebrating 4th of July. Truth is any excuse will do to have a barbeque party. They are simply great fun, easy to organize and memorable for guests and host alike.
Follow these tips to ensure you have a successful barbeque party:
- Plan ahead. Send out invites. As with any party you need to organize the logistics. How many people are coming, how much food and drink need to be provided amongst other things.
- Make sure you check the weather for the time of the year you will be hosting your barbeque party. If the weather forecast looks foreboding make sure you have a dry area for your guests. Fixed structures such as gazebos and patios are perfect, but almost as good can be the portable free-standing gazebos and covers (At a pinch, string up a tarpaulin). Of course the ideal is to choose a time of the year when fine weather can be expected.
- Plan and purchase the meat you will be cooking for your barbeque. It’s always a good idea to have a variety of meat, and you can’t go past the usual beef, pork, chicken and fish. Consider choosing at least 2 different types of meat.
- Consider the side dishes you will be having. Chips, dips and breads always go down well. The traditional side salads such as potato salad, coleslaw and garden salads are popular and easy to prepare and store. Other condiments such as onion, relish and pickles work well. The idea for your sides is to have easy preparation and storage before the barbeque party.
- Prepare your meat the day before including any marinating you will be doing. This allows the marinades to really do their job. Also it makes it easier if the meat is ready to go the next day.
- Will you be decorating the area? Make the day of the barbeque party easy and decorate the day before.
- Clean and prepare the barbeque (including checking on the fuel supply and replacing if necessary). Again the day before is best.
- On the day of the barbeque, prepare before the party guests arrive. Depending on the size of the party this will typically take around 2 hours.
- Make sure there will be enough seating for your guests and consider using plastic eating utensils and paper/plastic plates. You will be thankful when it comes time to clean up and also it provides a safer barbeque environment, especially if there will be kids involved.
- Consider using a checklist when planning and implementing your barbeque party. Not only will it help get everything right for this party, but it can be used as a blueprint for future parties.
